Theme: Dermatology of the future

Summary:

The annual Maharashtra state Dermatology meeting was held at Ramada hotel and Convention Centre, Powai, Mumbai on 29th, 30th and 31st December, 2017. This year’s theme was “Dermatology of the future” and accordingly the scientific session was designed. There were exciting sessions like Innovations in Dermatology session discussing scope of stem cells in dermatology, IIT-Bombay BETiC session on how engineers and doctors can change medicine by working together, Dermatology in 2040: Through the crystal ball, Robotics & hair transplantation and an entire session dedicated to biologicals

The event started with excellent workshops on facial aesthetics and lasers including hands on experience for participants under expert guidance. A highly academic CME program on connective tissue disease was well received by both postgraduate students and practicing dermatologists.

Dr V. N Kale oration was delivered by Dr. Somesh Gupta on Conceptual and analytical thinking in cutaneous and aesthetic surgery, which was very inspiring for every dermatologist.

Dr Leslie Marquis oration was delivered by Dr. Rajiv Joshi on Apoptotic melanocytes and its clinico-histopathological correlation which stimulated a thought provoking response.

The A. C. Parikh award for the best-case presentation by postgraduate residents was awarded to Dr. Pritica Debnath from GMC, Nagpur for Atypical variants of ENL

The S. L. Wadhwa award which is given to postgraduate residents for the best research paper for a study including clinical trials, epidemiological and investigational study was awarded to Dr. Akanksha Shrivastav for her study on objective assessment of PDL

The D. J. Patil award for best case presentation from Life members was awarded to Dr. Saurabh Jaiswal for his paper on uncommon use of common salt.

The Arvind Lonkar award for a special contribution in dermatology including post graduate thesis was awarded to Dr Sweta Tharewal (Guide – Dr Vasudha A Belgaumkar) for Clinico-epidemiological and histological study of adverse cutaneous drug reactions

The poster awards for best poster in Pediatric  dermatology was awarded to Dr. Kapisha Shah from KJ Somaiya Hospital (Atypical Hereditary sensory autonomic neuropathy), Dr R. Ganpati award for best poster on Leprosy was awarded to Dr. Binny from Nair hospital (Rare and unusual presentations on leprosy)  and Dr. M.S. Trasi – Dr. R C. Shah award for the best poster was jointly shared by Dr. Swati Thorat from JJ Hospital (A clinicopathological study of cutaneous appendageal tumors of head & neck with their dermoscopic features) and Dr. Pawan Gupta from KJ Somaiya hospital (Extensive arborizing Nekam’s disease)

The parallel sessions running during the conference covered various spectrums of dermatology including pigmentary disorders, hormonal acne, rosacea, Hair disorders, superficial infections, drug reactions, genodermatoses and HIV management. These sessions had a practical approach with interactive components of various panel discussions. A wide variety of topics were covered in the simultaneously running Free Paper sessions.

A session on tackling legal and tax issues was very well received by participants where they could interact with legal specialist and a Chartered accountant for practical issues affecting dermatologists.

On Sunday, IADVL- GSK quiz was entertainingly conducted by the young quiz master Dr. Shekhar Neema with AFMC Pune team being declared the winners.

The Cuticon Maharshtra 2017 has lived up to its expectation of being a well attended event with scientific excellence with good take home messages for all the attendees.
