CUTIOCON MH 2019 REPORT

Friday, 22 nd November 2019: Preconference Workshop & Hands On Training, CME

SUMMARY:

Kolhapur Dermatologists Association(KDA) under the aegis of IADVL Maharashtra Branch hosted CUTICON Maharashtra 2019( Annual State Conference) for the first time in Kolhapur on 22nd-24th November 2019 at Hotel Sayaji, kolhapur.

The theme of the conference was ‘Therapeutic Revolution in Dermatology’. This conference hence created unique opportunity to interact, discuss clinical innovations, scientific breakthroughs & research challenges.

The event started on Friday 22 nd November with excellent Video Workshops on 6 varied topics. Wound care management, Dermoscopy, Trichoscopy & Varicose Vein management was conducted in Dr. M.B. Gharpuray Hall A. Micropigmentation, Microblading, Liquid Face Lift & Acne Scar Management was conducted in Dr. M.B. Gharpuray Hall B. These workshops in two different halls were successfully conducted by the expert faculties. Almost 250 delegates enthusiastically attended these workshops.

Parallel to above workshops, two ‘Hands On Training’ workshops were organised for a dedicated group of 80 preregistered dermatologists.

  1. Dr. Venugopalan, Emergency Medicine Expert from Calicut & his team conducted Hands On Training Workshop on CPR & Emergency Medicine. He enlightened the delegates on different clinical emergency scenarios on 8 different stations.
  2. Another Hands On Training was conducted by Dr. Ananta Kulkarni, renowned plastic surgeon on Suturing Techniques. He
    taught the delegates as to how to take sutures in various dermatosurgical procedures. All these workshops were a great success.

Preconference CME on Friday 22 nd November afternoon was focussed on ‘Decoding Challenges in Dermatotherapeutics’. Dr. Chitra Nayak guided the delegates on using the physician desk prescriptions in dermatology. Compounding in dermatology was aptly covered by Dr. Sushil Tehliani. Psychotropic
drug uses in dermatology was delivered by Dr. Pranaya Bagde. Dr. Abir Saraswat enlightened the audience about big hopes on small molecules. Cost effective uses of biologicals was briefed by Dr. Br. Sanjeev Vaishampayan. This was followed by an hourly panel discussion on how i manage various
dermatological conditions. Moderator Dr. Sushil Pande made it very lively & interactive discussion.

Conference on Saturday 23 rd November, started with early morning sessions on psoriasis, pigmentation, leprosy, STD/HIV, clinical dermatopathology, pharmacotherapy & lasers. All these parallel sessions running in almost 5 halls covered various spectrums of dermatology.

Two Keynote Lectures were the main highlights on Saturday.

  1. Dr. Ravindra Kiwalkar, a well known Diabetologist very elaborately spoke on insulin resistance & its implications in dermatology.
  2. Dr. Arun Inamdar excellently delivered lecture on translational research-innovation matters in dermatology.

Post lunch sessions on Saturday on trichology, sarcoidosis, pediatric dermatology, dermoscopy, infectious dermatology, practice essentials, aesthetic dermatology dermatosurgery were very much appreciated by the delegates. Excellent panel discussion on Therapeutics of New v/s Old generation
dermatologists moderated by Dr. Sharad Mutalik fetched the crowd at large.

A wide variety of topics were covered in simultaneously running Free Paper Sessions & Invited Talks.

The inaugural function of Cuticon MH was held on Saturday evening. Dr. Kiran Godse, President Elect 2020 National IADVL officially inaugurated the conference. His speech was motivational to the delegates. He also narrated many IADVL activities. Dr. Rashmikant Shah, Vice-President 2020 National
IADVL also graced the occasion. Executive Committee members of IADVL-Maharashtra & Organising committee members graced the dias. Dr. Rashmikant Shah, Vice President 2020 National IADVL officially inaugurated the Souvenir Book for Cuticon MH- SAAJ, The Souvenir. This Kolhapuri Saaj is
embedded with memories of in & around kolhapur, many fresh articles from dermatologists, photography n many more pearls….

Sunday 24 th November, started with IADVL GSK Quiz, which was entertainingly conducted by quiz master Dr. Vinitha Varghese. This was followed by various award sessions. The A. C. Parikh Award for best case presentation by postgraduate residents was won by Dr. Nupur Warke for mimickers of innocuous lesions-diagnostic challenge.

The S. L. Wadhwa Award for best research paper by postgraduate residents was awarded to Dr. Anusha Potula for body hair loss in alopecia areata posing a challenge to severity assessment in children compared to adults.

The D. J. Patil Award for best case presentation from Life Members was awarded to Dr. Shital Poojary cutaneous tumours masquerading a benign dermatological conditions.

The Arvind Lonkar Award for a special contribution in dermatology including postgraduate thesis was awarded to Dr. Payal Patil (Guide- Dr. Sushil Pande) for Histopathology of hair follicle epithelium in recurrent & recalcitrant dermatophytosis.

The Poster Awards for best poster in pediatric dermatology was awarded to Dr. Sanober Daruwalla for successful treatment of steroid induced lipoatrophy with normal saline in a child. Dr. R. L. Ganpati Award for best poster in leprosy was won by Dr. Vrutika Shah for an Uncommon face of Puzzling papules
& nodules. Dr. M. S. Trasi-Dr. R.C. Shah award for best poster was bagged by Dr. Ravina Naik for Facial Actinomycetoma. Appreciation Award for Poster was won by Dr. Tejas Vishwanath for Koebnerization at insulin injection site in LSEA.

Mid Morning session on Sunday on Dermatology & Sexology witnessed full house with delegates.

Dr. Leslie Marquis Oration was excellently delivered by Dr. Deepak Parikh on Therapeutic Challenges & Innovations in Pediatric Dermatology.

This year IADVL Maharashtra conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award 2019 on two Dermatologists.

  1. Dr. Satish Sawant for the outstanding proficiency & dedication to the field of Dermatosurgery.
  2. Dr. Yashwant Tawade for the extraordinary contribution to the field of dermatology, for the empathy and care of patients and a teacher par excellence.

Both of them were felicitated on Sunday with a plaque & a momento. This session witnessed a full house.

Almost 800 delegates including postgraduates attended the event.

The conference was successful with the unending support & guidance from Dr. Sharad Mutalik-
President IADVL MH & Dr. Sharmila Patil- Hon. Secretary IADVL MH, & also all the Executive & Managing
Committee members Team.
